Ireland’s Artist Emergency Relief Fund, operated by the Civic Theatre, Tallaght, has been given a boost of support following a partnership with a new international masterclass platform for the performing arts. Founded by Dublin based theatre director and educator Rory Hughes, Broadway Official Online Masterclass (BOOM) provides one-to-one training and online courses with top industry professionals from the world of television, stage and film. The website connects aspiring actors, singers and dancers with local and international artists allowing them to develop their craft from home.
Niamh Honer, marketing manager of the Civic Theatre, Tallaght believes that BOOM is an ideal way to learn new skills whilst supporting the wider theatre community: “The project provides employment opportunities to arts and entertainment professionals who have found themselves out of work due to the COVID-19 restrictions. At the same time, a portion of the proceeds from each class goes directly to the Civic Theatre’s Artist Relief fund which has been providing monetary support to the wider artistic community in Ireland.”
The project has gained widespread support amongst many of Broadway’s and the West End's top stars. Amongst the forthcoming classes American actress Laura Bell Bundy, who starred alongside Charlie Sheen in Anger Management, will provide her first Live Q&A session on Monday, May 4th, 8 pm.
The project’s founder, Rory Hughes, believes the platform will provide huge opportunities for both beginners and accomplished performers: “There are Live classes and talks for all levels of ability. For beginners, it’s the perfect way to learn a new skill without the fear of embarrassment. For accomplished performers, it provides unparalleled opportunities to connect with your industry peers.”
Among the classes currently available, BOOM users can receive singing lessons from Telly Young, star of Broadway’s Aladdin, or learn to dance with Tony Award winner, Christopher Gattelli. Closer to home, you can take acting classes with Alan Stanford, or Wicklow native Amy Penston, star of the West End stage version of The Commitments. BOOM has partnered with the Verdon Fosse Estate and has exclusive distribution rights in Ireland & UK to the iconic Bob Fosse masterclasses.
The prices for BOOM classes start at €10. For further information visit: www.boomasterclass.com
